With the use of the classroom incubator kit, Kelso Virtual Academy K-2 students will be able to watch the full process of hatching chicks. This will provide a real-life connection to the student's life science learning online. This virtual "hand-on" connection will help excite the students in the area of life science, a traditionally challenging k-2 subject to teach online. Using the incubation kit will also provide students the opportunity to discuss, share and brainstorm during our online classroom meetings. Due to our "chicken lady" friend in class who brings her chickens to most meetings, there is a real connection within our k-2 classroom to chicks, chickens, and the responsibility it takes to own one. Many of our great conversations in morning meetings start with chicken fun! Despite choosing/needing to learn at home, these families will have an opportunity to witness and participate in the lifecycle of a chick and the joy of hatching your own chicks!
