Literacy is essential to a classroom! I have been teaching in a first grade classroom the past two years, and the main issue I have noticed is the lack of interesting, engaging, on level books for my students in my library. First grade is literacy focused, and they deserve to have a classroom library that encourages them to get cozy and get lost in a book! I want them to get into a series, and to go on adventures with Jack and Annie in the magic Treehouse books. I want them to laugh with Mo Willems' Gerald and Piggie, and the Pigeon books! I want them to go searching for information in a National Geographic book or read along along with Biscuit. Above all, I want my students to get lost in books, and find joy in reading every day. Reading is the key to learning, and with a library full of amazing books to choose from, my first graders will soar! Literacy will open the doors for the children and enhance their education.
