Students will use Thomas C. Foster's How to Read Literature Like a Professor to master interpreting archetypal choices in their writing. In the coming years, our students will take five reading-based standardized tests (English II EOC, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Language and Literature, SAT and ACT) and Foster's interpretive shortcuts provide a valuable perspective interpreting difficult text. Additionally, Foster condenses years of literary theory study into a short novel with student-accessible language. Foster presents perspectives on common archetypes: the hero's journey, religious symbols and allusions, common symbolism, ancient Greek references, and symbols from the natural world. Students can adopt Foster's perspective to use in their own interpretive and analytical writings for these standardized tests.
