Building an exciting hands-on learning environment makes all the difference in the lives of my students. Our Critical Thinking Games & Activities Library is an essential part of our classroom. My students struggle with traditional learning and require differentiation for each student's special needs. As the only teacher in the room I look for creative and effective ways to meet the needs of each student. Math and reading games will provide a hands-on way to practice skills with a teacher or peer partner. Students participate in whole group lessons but really shine when they are given the chance to work in small groups. Even though my sixth graders read well below grade level, they feel a sense of pride when they read to their kindergarten buddies. By helping us build our Critical Thinking Games & Activities Library you are making a direct difference in the lives of these students as they build their reading and math skills. We have been able to do a few STEM projects as we incorporate science and social studies with literacy and life skills. The problems is that we have very little supplies. The volcano model can be used to show a cross section of the inside of a volcano but also used over and over again to create lava flows of different viscosity. Many needed items can be used for several STEM projects (glue, string, masking tape, craft sticks) to create models of zip lines and architectural structures to experiment with. I was able to purchase a STEM program myself in hopes of getting your assistance with the needed supplies. My students already have shown an amazing interest in learning. This project will only help enrich their experiences in all areas of the curriculum.
