iPads will provide my students with many options to access technology across all subject areas. Phonics apps will provide my students with more practice in developing their phonemic and phonological awareness. There are 7 English Learners in my class that do not have access to technology at home and live with families that speak Spanish in the home. Access to auditory books will be helpful in providing more opportunities for them to hear the English language. A few of my students have poor fine motor skills. Handwriting apps will be essential in developing their fine-motor skills while also providing more practice with appropriate hand-motion for tracing. Some students have a hard time calming down from over stimulating activities (e.g. coming in from recess). Access to portable music on the iPad for them to listen to with headphones will create a great opportunity to help calm their body and mind. Math is our focus this year and an iPad has hundreds of apps for students to access. Fun and engaging math apps will help instill a love for math in my scholars at a young age. Social/Emotional health is of the upmost importance in Kindergarteners. Learning how to express emotions appropriately at their age can be challenging. iPads have apps that allow students to identify their emotions non-verbally, making it more realistic for students to be able to share how they are feeling.
