All of our students want to be readers and want to grow as readers. However, because of the demanding schedules that many middle schoolers have, it becomes difficult to find time to read. The aim of this project is to provide texts to all students so that they have an opportunity to 'read on the edges of their lives.' These books will be placed throughout the school so that when students have a few free minutes, whether that be waiting for the bus, after finishing an assessment or during a study hall, they have access to a some type of book to help them read on the edges of their lives. The idea behind this is that time in text helps to develop strong readers, so by encouraging students to use any free minute they have to engage in a text, the hope is that it will result in stronger and more fluent readers.
