Flexible seating allows students to have choices about where they work in the classroom and the type of "seat" they use whether it is on the floor, on a bench or standing at a table. They learn to make decisions about what is best for them to be productive. They are allowed to move throughout the day, depending on the activity, so they can work collaboratively or independently in a place that is comforartable for them. I have been working to add various seating options in my classroom so my students can have more choices. I want to be able to give them a choice when we gather for large group discussions too. Students stay engaged when they are comfortable. I would like to provide bench seating as an option when we gather at the easel for large group lessons and discussions. Some kids are not comfortable sitting on the floor when we meet and they would prefer to sit on something. The benches would also allow kids sitting in the back to see better. In addition, these benches would provide another choice for kids to use during independent work times.
