The Hate U Give is a culturally relevant text that would enrich my students learning because of the strong character portrayed in the novel. The protagonist is a teenage girl who is struggling to find her voice. Throughout the book, we see the progression of her character and how she is able to develop a stronger sense of self. By using this book, the students would have a greater understanding of how the literary elements theme, tone, and point-of-view enhance the story. This will enhance my students’ learning because they will be able to relate to the protagonist and the struggles she faces. The novel will allow the students to critically think about real issue and the multiple points of views that are attached to such issues. It will engage them to have an authentic dialogue about the role the protagonist takes on.
