My students love hand-on learning and they are all amazed by animals. Our science curriculum has not been geared toward the special needs of my students, so I have tried to find resources that will spark interest and excitement to learn. I thought learning about the life cycle of a butterfly while we care for and eventually release them would be a wonderful opportunity to help them improve their social skills (we will talk to the butterflies and encourage them to grow), reading skills (we will read about the butterfly life cycle), and math skills (we can track how many butterflies emerge compared to how many caterpillars we started with, how long it took them to grow, etc.)
