My students need an evidence based writing program (along with mentor texts, and writing tools) to increase their writing skills in the small group setting. By incorporating the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing program, along with mentor texts, flexible seating, and fun writing tools, my students will have access to content that allows them to grow as writers. Many of my students find writing to be a daunting (least preferred) task, and with the use of markers and post it tape (as opposed to pencils), students will have the opportunity to use creativity to write/sketch stories around the classroom using flexible seating. The 6 + 1 Traits of Writing Program is a highly respected tool for evaluating student writing and planning instruction. The mentor texts will be used alongside instruction as an exemplar to inspire students in their own writing.
