These times are uncertain and trying, to be sure. Since COVID-19 turned the educational system upside down last spring, many of my students have faced hardships at home and in school. I teach 125 students each day in a low-income school and community. Normally, I provide them with community markers, scissors, glue sticks, tape, journals, etc. - but this year we can not share any materials. I am unable to buy everything my students need myself, although I wish I could. I am requesting these resources for my students. In a middle school science classroom, engaging the senses with hands-on projects is the ideal situation; we will have to think outside the box this year! I want my students to be able to create models in their journals, make vibrant posters, and bring their work to life using the materials I have requested. My students deserve to have some sense of normalcy during these uncertain times, and I truly believe that this small gesture- providing them with the tools to be creative - will go a long way in helping them make connections, build their knowledge of science, and empower them with confidence. Please help me give my students a small sense of security - I promise it will make a difference.
