Our school is nestled in the heart of Gary, Indiana, which was once surrounded by bustling mills. Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity. The community has a history of struggle with poverty, violence and lack of opportunity. I have been teaching here for 13 years and believe that we have the most resilient students. I am amazed by them everyday. These students work hard but are facing many obstacles just to make it to school everyday. My goal is to provide them with a safe, nurturing and supportive classroom where they are inspired and encouraged.
