I teach at a title 1 school where about 51% of students qualify for free or reduced lunches. More than half my class is English Language Learners. My district has adopted a reading program but this program's writing component is insufficient, so I am left to supplement. My students are curious learners and love to play with words. I hold them up to high standards and they surprise me every day. They need literature that will challenge them yet support their learning.
