The majority of my students are English Language Learners. They are very curious. I can show them a simple picture and the conversations bloom! They want to know what everything is, how to make phrases in English, and build their vocabulary. We will use the crisp pictures and insightful articles of the Scholastic News Magazines to help build their academic and social vocabulary. We will use the science readers in small groups to help them become more confident with reading informational text independently. Reading nonfiction is hard for most first graders, but with the simple text that Scholastic uses, I know these books and magazines will make a huge difference for my English Language Learners.
