Let's face it - even with students are face-to-face with teachers, today's classroom centers around digital learning. It seems that a second computer monitor is more of a necessity than a luxury. Never is that truer than in a journalism/yearbook news lab. My students use state-of-the-art software and computer sites, but the hardware offered by school districts is often subpar and must be enhance whenever possible. A second monitor would go a long way in bringing our resources up to speed. Easy access to both my teaching resources and to two classroom - one virtual, on physical - is also a plus that comes with an extra monitor. Students who are physically distanced from each other can maintain a sense of community with a second monitor in play. It is our plan that a second monitor be installed in our peer teaching area of the lab so that any student can have easy access to it as needed. I get excited just thinking about the avenues that would open up for my students through this technology addition. Our yearbook and our digital newspaper have both received national recognition every year for the quality of my students' work, but these kids function with limited tools. Please help me provide this much needed, much deserved tool for my hard-working students journalists. The growing emphasis on digital learning has brought with it a need to multi-task like never before, and sometimes one monitor just won't do. Giving a teacher an extra screen is like giving her the gift of time -- adding more hours to her day. The second screen provides an extra set of eyes and ears to address student questions, an increase in brain capacity she feels like she's on overload, an a helping hand to access stored files with more ease.
