These scooter boards will be implemented in our therapy sessions to help the child fulfill their sensory needs. We will incorporate academics as well, to put a fun spin on typical assignments. We will use these scooter boards on a regular basis and they will become an item the students request each treatment session. For instance, kids will be able to use the scooter board to improve upper body strength by propelling their self forward to retrieve a puzzle piece on one side of the room and then returning back to the other side to put the pieces together. Another option, is for the student to use the scooter board to pick a writing prompt and then propel to the other side of the room to write the sentence on the paper provided. This allows the student work on academics with writing a sentence, but also incorporate a fun spin on things and allowing the student to fulfill their sensory needs. Children who crave sensory input can have outbursts, behavior issues, or might not participate in class like their peers. Teaching children how to cope and give their body the sensory needed will allow them to be a more successful student.
