This in class library contains books in Spanish and in Spanglish with themes that are relevant to Spanish heritage students. Throughout my research I have chosen four main themes that are culturally responsive for my students’ needs. The major themes are bilingualism, transnationalism, counternarratives, and literature that challenges tokenism and stereotypes. These themes will be covered within my year-long curriculum but students will have the option to pick their own books based on theme, interest, and reading level. These books address themes such as bilingualism, transnationalism, counternarratives, and literature that challenges tokenism and stereotypes. The main objective for this project is for students to see their culture, their communities, and themselves reflected in literature.
