The key to successful free reading is being able to find something you enjoy reading. Inspiring students to read in their first language can be a challenge, even more so when it is their second language. Language acquisition is aided by input and free reading provides my students with valuable input. Inspiring students to read in a second language is easier when students have access to a wider variety of reading material. Being able to provide students access to novels such as María María and Los Sobrevivientes provides students a variety of topics and levels of text ensuring all students have the opportunity to read something they enjoy therefore aiding language acquisition.
