As a teacher, I have long had the desire to be able to have a bookshelf full of books from various genres that my students could have full access to in my classroom. Literacy is not only extremely important among all students, but it is also something that is often not focused on enough or not practiced in real time. Although I wish that I could personally purchase a never-ending amount of books to provide to my students, that is simply not the reality. However, that does not take away from the fact that they deserve to have access to books so that they have an opportunity to READ! This year, I am going to make it a point to implement time for reading in class, allowing students to read a book of their choice. I carefully and thoughtfully chose books that are a combination of classics, young adult best sellers, and ones that will spark conversation and interest among the students that read them. Personally having read many of the selections in my project, I can attest to them being a necessity for a classroom library and students will enjoy them for many years to come! Reading is something that, these days, is not practiced enough by our youth due to technology. It is my personal goal to reignite the love for reading among my students, and hopefully those students will inspire other students and so on and so forth! #readingisimportant
