This class set of October Sky: A Memoir will make a difference by bridging the gap between content areas, improving literacy in both science and English Language Arts. It is my belief that in order for science instruction to capture students' interest, the instructional strategies must incorporate the learning styles of all students. I envision utilizing this class set to couple science standards with the development of reading and writing skills. We will read the book as we work through our Astronomy unit. Reading and writing strategies and skills taught in students language Arts class will be incorporated in our class reading of the novel. Additionally, at the conclusion of the novel and our unit, students will showcase what they've learned through an artistic display. Surely, this will spark the enthusiasm of my artistic and visual learners.
