My students range from newcomer English Language Learners to students who just need a little extra help with reading or writing. If each student had consistent access to a device with word processing and internet capability, we could much more easily differentiate for and support these ELLs using leveled texts, language resources, educational apps, assistive technologies, and self-paced assignments. Unfortunately, it's not in our school's budget to provide a one-to-one device-to-student ratio, so I am turning to Donors Choose in hope of obtaining a classroom set of tablets. Tablets would provide my Limited English Proficiency students with greater independence. It would also give these rural kids a level of connectivity that populations in more affluent or metropolitan regions sometimes take for granted. Any donations, no matter how great or small, would be deeply appreciated by all of us.
