Students in my classroom need and receive 30 minutes daily after lunch to unwind from the social, academic, and physical input they take in during the morning. Providing them a comfortable place to lay their bodies with the use of the rest mats will allow them to feel safe, wanted, and comfortable as well as re-energizes them for learning later in the day. Currently, students lay on the hard floor with a small blanket and pillow. Some students are able to fall asleep and/or rest their bodies, but the majority find it uncomfortable and are very restless. The use of the rest mats allows students to find comfort more easily as well as teaches them to stay in their designated place during rest time.
