I work in the inner city with students in grades 2nd - 5th grade who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Most of our families live in poverty and the majority of the children at our school receive free and/or reduced lunch. My students all spend the majority of their school day in mainstream programming with support from special education staff. They receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and adapted physical education in addition to academic and behavior support throughout their day. They are absolutely amazing young people who are trying their hardest every day to be active participants in their environment.
