Every kid wants to play the drum! The beat...the rhythm...the sound....it draws students in and gathers them together. Unfortunately, my current classroom only provides 5 hand drums for my 1st and 2nd graders in music classes of 25-28 students. 40 minute classes don't allow time for all students to take a turn and behavior problems develop when students who have already played are waiting for long periods of time for the others to finish. Drums are an integral part of elementary music! Every culture uses them to gather their communities and share their traditions. I hope to use hand drums to involve my students in hands-on learning of music in my classroom.
