I am a Kindergarten special education teacher. I have the privilege to work with students that have many different types of developmental exceptionalities. One of the biggest overlooked needs for students with developmental exceptionalities is sensory input. I am a very big advocate for sensory therapy, such as sand play, jumping on trampoline, or swinging on sensory swing. I try very hard to build it into my classroom schedule daily. With some of my students, they need it just as much as they do food and water to be able to function. I want them to have a safe place they can come to feel like they can let go and feed their "sensory diet" daily. With this project, it will help my students that get overwhelmed with particular types of lighting. It can be a spot where they can develop fine motor skills as well as use their imagination to build and create while not being overwhelmed by their environment. Thanks!
