Music is an essential part of every aspect within our society! The ability to perform an instrument is a skill that will last forever, but the equipment/instruments my students are asked to perform on are older and worn down through many years of use. Just like it is essential to have working equipment for academic classes and sports programs, it is also essential for my students to have high quality and working instruments to be the best musicians they can be.
The poverty level of this community makes it extremely difficult to get our instruments repaired, but through funding this project you can give my students the opportunity to share their musical craft with this tight-knit community!
The repair kit allows me to repair normal wear and tear issues that we find with all instruments. Typically when you have to repair these issues it takes a lot of money, as well as time. Instead of spending a ridiculous amount of money on repairing simple issues and not being able to play their instruments for weeks at a time, I will be able to repair a student's instrument and have it ready to play within a day. This will greatly increase the amount of time the students have their instruments, save our program money and allow me to teach my students simple solutions to instrument repair!
Along with the repair kit, the mallets give my percussion students an opportunity to perform on keyboard instruments. Because of the lack of mallets, my percussionists are not always able to practice on mallet instruments. It is essential for their education as musicians to have this opportunity and this project will allow more of them to learn their way around a keyboard instrument!
My woodwind and brass players also need embouchure training kits for practice.
