I am an openly LGBT educator who started out in education through Teach For America in New Haven, CT and currently still teach 5th Grade Math and Science here. My school is the most diverse school in the city, just in my homeroom I have students from over a dozen countries with more than 5 languages spoken fluently. This class is the future of the STEM world, not only do they push themselves on Common Core/NGSS aligned curriculum, but they also learn to embrace their identity and problem solve collectively. I get to teach 47 individuals from different backgrounds with academic skills ranging from 1st to 8th grade on a daily basis. this challenge ignites me with a drive to get better through professional development, higher learning and the constant search for learning. My classroom is always changing and through DonorsChoose I hope to get the materials I need to implement to create a truly dynamic classroom.
