I am currently working on my Master's in Administration and was tasked with finding an issue that my students face which directly impacts their education. My school's demographics have changed drastically over the last five years and nearly 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. We have also seen a major decrease in our daily attendance rates over this time, going from an average of 98% of students present daily to 92%. Therefore, I selected to focus my efforts on finding a way to increase daily attendance among all students. This impacts their education and their future by ensuring they are provided with a quality education everyday, without gaps being created by excessive absences. I will be starting an attendance initiative that will encourage students to attend school and rewards them for their efforts. Students who come to school regularly will be rewarded with school currency that will be used at the school store to purchase items of their choosing. This will be a school wide initiative and I will need help and support in funding the school store and purchasing the items that students can purchase.
