Math is a concept that is hard for most students and so I have found that giving student the right tools makes it a little easier. The tool that I have found to help them is a composition book this tool allows those students who are shy, unclear, have no one at home that can help, and any other student that is unable to have extra help when I as the teacher am not available (Which is most of my students). The composition books also with with our ELL learners the colored paper allows math concepts and language to stand out in a different way for them. With their composition books they are able to revisit the concept or concepts they have learned in class to access anywhere. I found that black and white foldables do not have the same affect on the concepts that colored paper does. In order for this to be effective I feel that they need these concepts to stand out and so I have always used color paper to allow that to happen. This year with budget cuts the colored paper got cut out of our classrooms. So, I am really needing help to pay for the colored paper so that my students have the same opportunities to learn as students who are economically advantaged.
