In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on the city of Houston, taking schools and students homes in its path. Due to the destruction inflicted on Houston ISD, there have been major budget cuts in the 2018--2019 school year. Resources that used to be available are not going to be provided this year in order to try to alleviate some of the struggle. It is hard to promote academic success without the availability of basic school supplies. My students need paper in order to be provided with valuable workstations, enriching homework packets, assessments to help guide instruction, and a way to enhance learning through projects. In addition to paper, I am asking for alternative seating for my classroom to help create a comfortable environment for all students, and post-its which will be used daily for quick checks, exit tickets, and response to reading activities.
