Being an active reader who can decode complex texts is an invaluable skill for students to have on their journey to becoming college and career ready. In my classroom, I present students with the texts and strategies necessary to build them up as readers who can analyze texts. These strategies are not only useful in my classroom, but in their other classes as well since reading texts is a component in all content areas. Having a document camera will facilitate the process of teaching these skills and provide my students with the option to learn in different ways. Not all students have the same learning style, and many do not do well with straight lecture. A large number of my students are visual learners. This document camera would help me provide a visual while also providing lecture. Students, without a doubt, need to be strong readers to really experience success in and outside of the classroom. This project will help enrich students' experiences with analyzing texts, therefore, making them stronger readers who will not be intimidated by texts.
