Albert Einstein said, "Curiosity has its own reason for existing", and I want my students to apply this quote in my classroom every day in science! I hope that my students are given the opportunity to experience this hands-on activity which will help to create their curiosity. Our school's population has a free/reduced-price lunch rate of 90% and an ELL population of 85%. Due to the makeup of our students, many lack experience and background knowledge necessary to succeed in science. They are excited about learning and need the opportunity to experience science in a meaningful way. I want my students to experience science rather than read about science. My goal is to obtain frogs, dissection kits, and trays to allow my students to gain a greater understanding of the organs and body systems of animals. These frogs will give my students the experience of real-world science. They will "be scientists"! This experience will enhance their ability to write about what they have learned in science, and for most students, it will be their first opportunity to experience a dissection! I want to create a classroom where students are engaged in student-centered, real-world, hands-on activities that will enhance their learning experiences. Having frogs will allow my students the opportunity to develop scientific knowledge through understanding of scientific concepts in this hands-on inquiry.
