A gathering carpet allows us to have a place to work as a community. We can hold morning meetings and teach lessons in a place where we can all sit near each other. We start our day and end our day sitting in circle at the carpet to build relationships in the classroom. Students use the carpet area for reading and writing lessons. They also use the carpet spot to complete work during our math block. Having this carpet will provide more flexible seating options in the classroom, because students can choose to work there during independent learning activities. Having this choice will help them stay more engaged.
