A major part of our class curriculum is learning to cook. We practice following a recipe and kitchen safety skills every week. We also learn how to set a budget and look for sales as we plan our next meal. In order to fund our cooking projects we have a small school business of selling bags of popcorn that we make in class. The whole process of selling the popcorn helps the students understand the basic concepts of setting a budget and allocating funds for business expenses as well as using the profit as a source of funding for their cooking program. Unfortunately our current popcorn machine is now longer popping up a profit for us. It is a very old machine and repair is no longer an option. In order for us to continue with our life skills program, we are in need of a new commercial sized popcorn machine that can help us get back to business for the 2018-2019 school year.
