Students in a special education classroom often have the experience of only having books in their reading level that seem like baby books. This can be extremely detrimental to students at a high school level. I am working to build a classroom where students can chose from books at a lower level, but are still relevant to them. The books I have chosen for my students to read throughout the year can be applied to them in their lives. While reading students can learn new vocabulary while being exposed to a wide variety of situations that may apply to them. I want my students to make connections with these books and see how they can apply to not only their lives, but also their classmates’ lives.
