I work at a high-poverty high school and 49% of our students did not pass the reading portion of our state test last year. One of my goals is to help my students develop and foster positive relationships with reading. In my class, we practice DIR (Daily Independent Reading) for 10 minutes every day. After all, we can't get any better without practice, right? In order to ensure that all 165 of my students have access to literary works that they feel represented by and connected to, I need to cultivate a broad and inclusive classroom library. I already have a good start, but as a first-year teacher, could use some help. My students are very enthusiastic about DIR and have even made requests for the types of books they'd like access to in our class library. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
