As a first-year teacher, I would like my students to be exposed to a couple of different genres which are not currently present in our classroom library. These books will be used as read-aloud and some will help strengthen our classroom community. These poetry books will help my students understand and appreciate the world around us. As a teacher, these books will guide my instruction in both reading and writing, but it will also allow my students to see poetry as a form of artistic expression. Social-emotional learning also plays a big role in our school community, therefore,​ my students will benefit from having some resources in the classroom.
