Our youngest STEM learners need hands-on materials to learn the abstract thinking skills to become successful future coders. These hands on materials will give students concrete experiences to grow coding skills while they problem solve and learn collaboratively in a game-like way. Sequential thinking, cause and effect, trial and error, revising thinking, collaborative learning, adaptability, determination... these 21st century skills may be the most difficult to teach directly. As educators, and especially as a STEM educator, our goal is to provide rich learning experiences and foster growth in a meaningful way. Seeing coding robots in action will give our students a chance to think, plan, collaborate, take action, observe, and revise their thinking.
