First graders love hands-on math manipulatives. Five and six-year-olds are concrete learners. Our first-grade friends love things that they can touch, explore, and physically see. Students need hands-on manipulatives to move from concrete, semi-concrete, to abstract learning. The 120 number board will help students build number sense. This tool allows the teacher to differentiate learning according to each student's level of learning. The write and erase boards will help students move to a semi-concrete understanding of numbers by subitizing the number in different ways. Teachers are able to assess for mastery when students are representing numbers in different forms. These boards would be of use for the entire class or small group centers for reinforcement for skills introduced by the teacher. The giant ten frame dice gives students another opportunity to have a hands-on manipulative to show representations of numbers in different ways. The dice turn the activity into a game. Students love math games. These dice create a fun sense of engagement.
