My students are motivated to learn and most of them practice their reading with neighbors and/or older siblings. Unfortunately, their parents do not speak English and is hard for my students to keep practicing what they have learned in school at home. When I ask their parents how they practice their English skills most answer just by watching T.V., a few say that their children don't speak any English at home! Although our parent involvement is high, parents can't always help my students out with their reading skills since they are non-English speakers. We are a Title 1 school, where parents are also looking for extra support for their students.
