Imagine this. Students enter into the classroom, eager to get lost in a world far from their own, eager to enter the world of their favorite book. Except, there aren’t enough books for the students. And, to top it off, students have to choose between limited genres. Students have different interests, so it’s only right that they should be able to read books that match their interests. Who knows? They may even develop a few new interests and find some new favorites! I want my students to develop a deeper love for reading, by being enthralled by literature that speaks to them and that they can relate to. As a side effect, students’ writing and spelling will also improve as they become exposed to various writing styles, new words, and correct grammar/sentence structure, which will supplement our classroom instruction. Books like “Paper Towns” by John Greene, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, and “The Skin I’m In” by Sharon G. Flake are what my students have requested, and what I intend to fill my class library with. I appreciate any donations you can give to help inspire my students and to invest in their futures!
