By donating to our project, you will not only help to decrease anxiety and stress, but you will ultimately help to increase student academic achievement. With these items, when students are upset, feel anxious, or are fidgety, they will take a break in the sensory area in our grade level common area. They will be given suggestions on which sensory tool(s) will best fit their current mood. This guidance will give them initial support to learn how to eventually calm themselves. Currently, there is no sensory area for our grade level where students can take a calming break, and have access to items to help them learn to successfully cope with their feelings. All of the items requested will be placed in an area where third grade students will have the ability to learn how to best understand and control their feelings. They will learn how to describe their emotions and find the best way to release their feelings appropriately. Over time, students will learn to take charge of how to manage their feelings in a way that does not impact their learning or the learning of other students. Through discussions with school counselors and therapists, the items I have selected will positively impact my students demeanor, emotional health, and ultimately their education.
