All of my sixty-six, suburban students are academically gifted in both math and science. They receive two hours of math and science instruction in resource rooms, where all of their peers are also gifted, or highly gifted. They are able to create multi-media projects with programs like Power Point and Sway. They thrive on utilizing current technology such as coding software, web chats, and virtual field trips. They use science inquiry daily, participate in hands-on labs and love to investigate and complete STEM design challenges. With these 2 in 1 touchscreen laptops, my students will be able to learn new coding skills that will innovate computer software programs in the future. Our classroom currently has 2 desktop computers that restricts our ability to learn and practice new technology skills. We have limited access, once a month, to a laptop cart that we have used to initiate and foster an understanding of coding and how it can used as a problem solving tool. By providing more laptops in our classroom on an everyday basis my students can write authentic code and investigate ways coding as a way to solve problems in the world around them.
