Learning math concepts by measuring with cups and spoons, exploring equivalencies and fractions, and discovering chemical reactions from baking are just a few of the ways math and science are integrated into cooking. Children will also develop language skills through describing tastes and textures, as well as reading and writing recipes. Besides all that, my students will be caring for each other and building community by making snacks and meals for one another in the classroom. Is there anything more comforting than a bowl of hearty soup made with love by friends, or smelling delicious oats cooking with cinnamon for a group breakfast on a cold day? Using a crockpot in the classroom will allow even my youngest students to participate and cook for their classmates. Having a bread maker means that we can bake a delicious and healthy snack for everyone whenever we want.
