Recess is the period that all my students live for. They love the great outdoors, the fresh air and everything that outdoor recess has to offer. This pandemic at some point and time has caused a significant halt in outdoor activities. This puts a significant strain on my student's ability to enhance their gross motor skills. While my students enjoy indoor recess where they are allowed to play in the kitchen area, build images with Lego blocks or race with the miniature cars, nothing takes the place of the fresh air and recreation that an outdoor recess provides. Indoor recess doesn't provide the opportunity to use their gross motor skills.
The use of tricycles is a means for my students to strengthen both their fine and gross motor skills both indoors and outdoors. So many of my students to some extent have fine and gross motor impairments. Learning to ride a tricycle will provide them the opportunity to have fun while building and strengthening their muscles. What a better way to incorporate fun into an activity that will also assist in improving their orthopedic impairments.
