My students want to expand their percussion knowledge and explore cultural diversity through world percussion. They have the enthusiasm, but they lack the access to the necessary instruments. Each culture's instruments have unique tones and timbres that can't be easily replicated with traditional percussion instruments. Djembes and shekeres will help us explore the vast world of African music and rhythmic patterns. Timables, agogo bells, castanets, and claves will help us to learn Latin music and help add more color to our Jazz band auxiliary percussion. Repiniques, tamborims, and pandieros will help us explore Brazilian music and the fantastic world of sambas and Carnival. Help bring cultural diversity to our music program through the introduction of world percussion instruments.
