My district uses a reading workshop model that requires leveled readers as part of the curriculum during independent and guided reading time. Leveled readers are extremely important in the development of literacy, as children can access information best when it is at their appropriate reading level. Using these readers, students will learn how to read during guided reading. The lower level books support students with pre-emergent reading skills while the higher-level books support students who are early fluent readers. I am very passionate about teaching students to read and write. My goal is not only to teach students to read, but also to instill a love of reading at a young age. My diverse group of students are filled with excitement when they get full color books that have highly engaging story lines and characters they can identify with. Due to the ongoing development of student literacy and learning levels, I sometimes run out of books and have to resort to photocopying books. I would like to keep them engaged and excited all year long using these leveled readers! Please help me get more books in the hands of all my students in order to expand and enhance their love of reading.
