Students have an inherent need to engage with books, intellectually and emotionally for optimal learning experiences. I hope to instill a joy in reading for my students. I want to help bridge connections my students feel to the texts we read together in class. Being exposed to a variety of genres will provide a solid foundation for them to be successful during formative middle school years. Literature circles are small groups of students that dive deep into a piece of literature at discuss the novel at a higher critical level. The portrait of today's graduates will be expected to understand and engage in activities that promote intellectual, physical, and emotional balance. Reading is a fundamental component to achieving success in life. Reading was my escape when life got difficult. We didn't have extra money as a family for books, so the library and free books was a must for me. I hope to be able to recreate this experience for my own 80 students this year, and campus wide for 350 fifth graders. Thank you for reading, contributing, and sharing your love of children's reading with me.
