Flexible seating allows for students to choose where they want to work. My students do their best work when they are comfortable, so having choices like floor chairs, exercise balls, and wobble stools will help to give them many options. Students need to move and wiggle while learning, so instead of making them sit in their traditional chairs and desks, I encourage them to move around the room! When I allow movement, I notice much more focus and positive energy in the classroom. Flexible seating also allows for students to collaborate (when acceptable) more easily with fellow classmates. I already encourage my students to move around the room during their work time, but would love to have options besides other hard chairs or the floor. Whatever I can do to make being at school and learning more fun... I'm all for it!
