The Lego Education materials in this project will provide access to building and coding for students to explore how simple, powered, solar-powered and pneumatic machines work. The Lego WeDo kits are made up of traditional Lego building blocks as well as motors, pumps, and other working pieces. Students will use Lego Software on iPads or computers to guide them through building working machines with these pieces, and their machines can then be solar, air or manually powered with the Solar, Simple Machine and Pneumatic add-on kits. Extra Dreambuilders bricks will allow students to make their own working machines beyond what the WeDo kits prescribe, so students can build working models of solar and air powered machines, just like the ones we use to power our lives! Over the years, I have pieced together discarded furniture to provide my students with choice and flexible seating. I have noticed students trying to tip backward while sitting on the stools at our small group table, which is dangerous for both them and the stools. The wobble stools in this project will provide a safe, comfortable outlet for that tipping sensation that so many students crave while learning. There are a few other smaller materials-- such as better lighting for one dark corner in our classroom, air-dry clay, and a few high-interest books for our classroom library--that will help our learning environment to be a more comfortable, stimulating and peaceful place for my students. These materials will stimulate curiosity, provide comfort, and ultimately help my students reach new heights in their learning.
